Movie Gist
Tony (standing) & Swann |
The
movie is an adaptation from Frederick Knott’s successful play. The story is
about a woman who escapes a death conspiracy.
In
London lived an ex-professional tennis player Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) with
his super rich wife Margot (Grace Kelly). Margot kept complaining about Tony’s
busy schedule; so he took retirement from tennis. Tony later on discovered that
she has been having an affair with Mark Halliday (Robert Cummings), who was an
American crime-fiction writer. Tony found a letter from Mark to Mary in her
hand-bag & since then he blackmailed her anonymously.

Margot
casually introduces Mark to Tony. Tony excuses himself & leaves. He meets
Swann (Anthony Dawson) & tells him about Margot’s affair. Tony plans to
kill Margot & wants Swann to be his partner in crime. Initially Swann
refuses; but Tony blackmails him saying the letter has Swann’s fingerprints
& that he will get Swann imprisoned for blackmailing Margot. Swann
reluctantly agrees.

As
per the plan, the murder would seem to be a failed robbery. But the plan
backfires & Swann gets killed. Tony immediately activates plan B.
The police comes in & investigates.
Chief Inspector Hubbard (John Williams) takes Margot into custody. The police
makes a statement that Margot killed Swann as he was blackmailing her. The investigation
